Representative 2.5 mm thick samples from the medial load-bearing (MLB) and medial non-load-bearing (MNLB) regions became translucent under transmission microscopy following graded immersion in concentrated fructose solution, which was reversible following graded immersion in PBS. Grid spacing = 2.1 mm.
