Detail of the flavin-binding pocket in the plant cryptochrome CPH1 modeled on the crystal structure of AtCRY1-PHR (PDB code 1U3D). Trp-397 acts as electron donor to flavin after excitation by blue light. The proton donor Asp-393 (Asp-396 in AtCRY1) was replaced with a cysteine in this study. The position of the ATP analog was determined in AtCRY1-PHR after soaking the crystal.
