The parameters used to compute the plot are for instance r = 2 and ϕ = 0.4. It is possible distinguishing four main states. The Cassie-Baxter partial wetting state (cos θ′ < cos θ < 1), the Wenzel partial wetting state (0 < cos θ < cos θ′), the Wenzel non-wetting state (cos θ″ < cos θ < 0), and the Cassie-Baxter non-wetting state (−1 < cos θ < cos θ″). In addition, there are metastable states (dashed lines) where both Wenzel and Cassie-Baxter states coexist.
