Assembly of nanoparticle chains: structured templates were fabricated by plasma oxidation of stretched PDMS stripes and subsequent relaxation (A). After spin coating the nanoparticle assemblies were transferred onto flat substrates by wet contact printing. Depending on the geometry of the employed wrinkles, single particle chains (B), dimer chains (C), or tetramer chains (D) were obtained with homogeneous surface coverage over centimeter-squared-scale areas. In reflection, the nanoparticle gratings diffract light (photographs).
