Levels of FaSnRK2.6 transcript decrease during the progression of strawberry fruit development and ripening are shown. OE- and RNAi-mediated suppression of FaSnRK2.6 expression delay and accelerate, respectively, the onset of strawberry fruit ripening. ABA and high temperature down-regulate the expression of FaSnRK2.6, thereby promoting strawberry fruit ripening. As seed maturation and dispersal can be regarded as a strategy for plants to withstand environmental stresses, the regulation of strawberry fruit ripening by FaSnRK2.6 embodies a role of FaSnRK2.6 in stress signaling.
