Fig 1. Oleate prevents palmitate-induced human BMMSC death.

Fig 1

A) Effect of palmitate on human bone marrow mesenchymal stem cell (BMMSC) viability was measured by the MTT assay after 48 hr treatment with indicated treatments. B) Effect of the ratio of palmitate and oleate on palmitate-induced BMMSC death after 72 hr treatment was measured by MTT assay. C) Effect of 72 hr treatment with stearate and/or oleate on the amount of viable cells was measured by the MTT assay. The BSA group was treated with media supplemented with 0.55 mM albumin. All fatty acid treated groups were also treated with media supplemented with 0.55 mM albumin in addition to the type and amount of fatty acid indicated in the figures. The Control group was treated with media identical to the BSA group minus supplementation with albumin. n = 7–12 * Significantly different from Control group. # Significantly less than BSA group. ^ Significantly less than 0.2 mM Palmitate Group. ** Groups are significantly different. Values are shown as the mean ± SEM.
