  • Enhance interactions for creating a regional network

  • Share ideas and areas of synergy among cores

  • Begin needs assessment plan

50
  • Region 3 GMaP/BMaP Communication & Dissemination Core was created from two cores and the Region 3 GMaP/BMaP Evaluation/Needs Assessment Core was created from two cores

  • All participating institutions agreed to provide in-kind financial support to off-set faculty travel, etc.

  • SharePoint site hosted by UAB would go live for document sharing

  • Needs/Assets Assessment Timeline was presented

  • Decision was made to hold a meeting on Region 3 GMaP/BMaP at each partner institution in April 2010 with a standard slide show on the programs

July 15–16, 2010 Tampa, FL; H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Institute
  • Further enhance interactions and networking among Region 3 collaborators

  • Finalize the CAT

  • Determine how the CAT will be administered

56
  • Revisions to the CAT sections from the retreat would be incorporated and discussed during future conference calls with cores for final review

  • Decision was made to implement the CAT via web

  • Decision was made to create a subgroup of the Clinical Trials Core to include the needs of non-therapeutic trials, behavioral and population-based studies

February 17–18, 2011 New Orleans, LA; Tulane University
  • Provide a preliminary analysis of the CAT

  • Identify strengths and opportunities for Region 3

  • Begin development of the Region 3 Implementation Plan

57
  • Following discussion, the Advanced and Emerging Technologies and Biomedical Informatics cores were merged to avoid duplication of effort and facilitate future initiatives

  • The CAT data were provided for writing the Implementation Plans and any Region 3 collaborative grants

  • For the Implementation Plans, each core was requested to list goals, specific aims, major findings, opportunities, and future steps

  • Region 3 will move forward with writing cooperative grants

August 4–5, 2011 Atlanta, GA; Emory University
  • Review the GMaP-3 and BMaP-3 Implementation Plans

  • Develop an action plan for the implementation of the GMaP-3/BMaP-3 supplements

  • Foster collaborative research/publications within the Region 3 network

37
  • A monthly update email was initiated for all investigators

  • Implementation Plans for GMaP-3 and BMaP-3 emphasized that accomplishment of stated priorities is contingent on funding availability

  • The Team Science Presentations were given at the retreat to jump start collaborative efforts within the network

April 23–24, 2012 Jackson, MS; University of Mississippi Medical Center
  • Review and integrate G/BMaP-3 Pilot Project activities

  • For the GMaP-3 Pilot, the working group made decisions regarding the dependent variable, terminology, and use of validated questions for the pilot’s quantitative assessment of factors associated with willingness, barriers, and facilitators to participation in non-therapeutic cancer-related research studies among African American and Hispanic/Latino healthy volunteers in Region 3

  • For the BMaP-3 pilot, the BMaP-3 Tissue Advisory Board elected breast as the initial cancer site for the pilot after taking into consideration a review of literature, cancer disparity data, CAT data, TMAs currently available, and the feasibility and interest at partner institutions in top cancer sites

  • Also, for the BMaP-3 pilot’s engagement of Community Health Educators two webinars were planned to meet their training needs in terms of biospecimen/biobanking education

  • Need for a publications committee was decided

  • Team science projects with collaborative opportunities were presented by G/BMaP-3 investigators
