HepG2 and A549 cells were incubated with medium alone (Ctl-), 50 μM etoposide (Etop), 3 mg/ml heat-fragmented citrus pectin (HFCP) or 3 mg/ml citrus pectin (Pectin). (A, B) A western blot analysis was performed on 15 μg of protein from HepG2 (A) or A549 (B) cells using antibodies against LC3 and p62. The immunodetection of ß-actin was used as a load control. The results are representative of two independent experiments. (C, D) Immunolabeling of LC-3 (green) and LAMP1 (red) in HepG2 (C) or A549 (D) cells incubated for 24 h. Nuclei were stained with TO-PRO-3 (blue), and cells were observed using a confocal microscope with the photomultiplier remaining constant. Pictures taken at two magnifications are shown.
