Lung lymphocyte numbers are reduced in E-P- mice after Ag challenge. Lung lymphocytes were collected by BAL (A) or from enzymatically-digested minced preparation of the perfused and lavaged lungs (B) of SRBC-primed mice four or seven days after IT SRBC challenge. Dark bars, wt C57BL/6 mice; light bars, E-P- mice. Absolute lymphocyte numbers were determined as the product of total BAL cell count (by hemocytometer) and lymphocyte percentage on differential cell count of hematoxylin and eosin stained preparations. Note differences in scales between A & B. Data represent mean ± SEM of six mice per group (days 0 and 4) or 11-12 mice per group (day 7) assayed individually in at least two experiments. **, p<0.01, unpaired Student t test.
