Defined as swollen lump under the skin lasting < 8 weeks, which is often red, warm, and painful. It may or may not have pus or be an open wound.

Defined as open areas on the skin lasting ≥ 8 weeks.

Clients who did not have a current wound were asked about their history with abscesses or chronic wounds. History included at least one prior wound that had healed before study evaluation. Number of participants answering history questions differs from general population N.
