Histone methylation is redistributed as proliferating cells enter quiescence but remains static in early exit from quiescence. Average ChIP-seq enrichment of H3K9ac (A), H4K12ac (B), H3K36me3 (C), and H3K4me3 (D) over scaled bodies (from the transcriptional start site [TSS] to the transcriptional termination site [TTS]) of all growth and stress genes characterized in Fig. 1 reveals differences between histone acetylation and methylation levels at these two distinct gene groups during quiescence establishment and exit. The histone modification ChIP signal was normalized to the H3 ChIP signal.
