Example of a typical turning experiment using a tethered American cockroach. The image shows a left turn controlled by electrical stimulation. The wire electrodes and leash are seen as dark lines in the image. The path of the roach is mapped by superimposing an axis at the start position, then marking its location at 0.5 s intervals.
