Lack of a 5′SS in the 3′ transcripts is required for trans-splicing of mod(mdg4). (A) An additional 5′SS abolishes trans-splicing and results in self-cis-splicing. (B) Replacing sequences of the 3′ intron and exons of mod(mdg4) did not obviously affect trans-splicing activity.
