DaCld (2.5 μM final) was mixed with a slight stoichiometric excess of peracetic acid at pH 8 and aged for 1 s. The resulting ferryl species (blue spectrum) was mixed with 1 eq of ascorbate (~2.5 μM final), resulting in formation of a species with a spectrum resembling the ferric starting material (black spectrum). Intervening spectra measured at the given times are shown in gray. Insets: visible bands (450–700 nm) shown on an expanded scale.
