Table 4.

Experimental 2H relative signal intensities, relaxation, and correlation times for the β and γ water components in purified porcine aortic elastin at 37°C

Untreated sample Glucose-treated sample
γ component
T1 (ms) 107.20±13.90 117.70±11.50
T2 (ms) 20.44±2.20 29.67±6.43
τc (ns) 11.35±2.00 9.00±2.65
β component
T1 (ms) 163.00±33.30 163.00±33.30
T2 (ms) 36.36±7.54 50.08±8.75
τc (ns) 9.95±3.50 7.55±2.85
Signal intensity per unit dry sample mass (AU/g)
γ+β 1.18 2.32
γ 0.43 1.15
β 0.75 1.17

Correlation times were determined using Eqs. 6 and 7. The uncertainties are determined from the distribution in the T1 - T2 map. The table also includes the signal intensity of each reservoir and the sum of the intensity in γ and β, determined from the integrated area in the two-dimensional ILT map per unit dry sample mass (AU/g). See Fig. 5 for denotation of β and γ water components.
