The fHbp variant group is designated according to the classification proposed by Masignani et al. ¹⁷. FHbp sequence ID, PorA subtype, nadA and nhbA allele were determined by sequence query on http://pubmlst.org/neisseria. Each isolate was typed by PCR amplification of each respective gene and sequence analysis using bioinformatics software Simmonics, Mega 5 and Chromas. NadA + IS1301: Strains with NadA encoding gene containing insertion sequence IS1301. NHBA-/stop codon: Strains lacking the NHBA encoding gene or having nhbA with stop codon.
