The first sample was collected at or as close as possible to the time of clinical manifestation of the cerebrovascular insult. The asphyxia group, N = 12 infants; N = 30 samples. IVH grade III/IV group, N = 5 infants; N = 12 samples. BCECs in control infants are plotted for comparisons; N = 27 infants; N = 35 blood samples. BCECs values are elevated in infants with cerebrovascular insults, but decreased with frequent measurements.
