Coracosternal joint motion during stance phase of a single stride. (a) In lateral view, pitching of the coracoid is apparent, the relatively fixed point near the dorsal margin of the scapula combined with sliding and retraction at the coracosternal joint reorients the glenoid during stance. (b) In ventral view, the large displacement of the coracoid results both from translation (0.8 cm in this stride) and rotation along the coracosternal groove.
