UV treatment of viral inoculum abolishes DDR activation. (A) BKPyV crude lysates were either untreated or treated with 4 J of UV prior to infection of RPTE cells at an MOI of 0.5 IU/cell. Total proteins were harvested at 1 day p.i. and 3 days p.i. and probed for the indicated proteins by Western blotting. Shown are representative blots from three independent experiments. (B) BKPyV DNA was quantified by real-time PCR. Replicated DNA (3 days p.i.) was normalized to input DNA (1 day p.i.). Combined results from three independent experiments done in triplicates are shown. The error bars are the standard deviation (SD) values. *, P < 0.05 (all statistical analyses in this study were performed using a two-tailed and unpaired Student's t test).
