Deletion or I6E mutation of N1 enhances CD8+ central and effector memory T-cell (TCM and TEM) populations. Mice were infected intradermally with the indicated viruses and 28 days later populations of CD8+ or CD4+ CD44hi CD62Llo (TEM) and CD44hi CD62Lhi (TCM) cells were counted from (a) the spleen or (b) the draining lymph nodes.
