Selection of Pseudomonas aeruginosa mutants affected in competition with bacterial pathogens. (A) P. aeruginosa Tn-mutants were spotted on Staphylococcus aureus bacterial lawn on MH-agar plate. This panel shows an example of a mutant displaying an altered inhibition zone compared to the others, indicating that this mutant is not able to compete with S. aureus. (B) P. aeruginosa Tn-mutants were spotted on LB agar plate with or without Klebsiella pneumoniae. The unbroken line shows a mutant drastically affected by the presence of K. pneumoniae whereas it had a normal growth on plate without competitor.
