Table 1.

Subject characteristics and results of speech perception testing for each subject with their ABI. All subjects were assessed with The Early Speech Perception test (ESP) (Moog and Geers, 1990) and the Category level achieved is given. ESP Categories are: Category 1 - Detection, Category 2 - Pattern Perception, Category 3 - Some Word Identification, Category 4 - Consistent Word Identification. Subjects who achieved the highest category of perception, Category 4, were also tested with the Consonant-Nucleus-Consonant monosyllable (CNC) test (House Ear Institute). All speech materials were recorded.
