Roux-En-Y gastric bypass (RYGB), adjustable gastric banding (AGB), sleeve gastrectomy (SG) are the most commonly employed. The most effective is RYGB followed by SG, which may be in part due exclusion of ghrelin producing portions of the stomach (marked in green). Bariatric Arterial Embolization (BAE) is believed to cause weight loss due to ischemic changes to the gastric fundus, which causes decreased ghrelin production, as well as alterations in satiety hormones and in mechanical function (delayed gastric emptying).
