DUF271 belongs to the superfamily of nucleotide-diphospho-sugar transferases. The 3D model of the DUF271 consensus sequence was based on the structure of the galactosyl transferase LgtC (26) (PDB code: 1ga8) from Neisseria meningitides. The Mn2+ cation (orange), UDP-sugar (gray) and the side-chains (white) of the key residues (Asp34, Ser36, Gln129, Asp131, Asp202, Gln243, Lys249) essential for UDP-sugar binding are shown.
