Checking nucleosome integrity at elevated salt concentration. FRET histogram of ED1.7 (A) and ED2–1 (B) at 50 mM NaCl, 1 M within 10 min of incubation and then back to 50 mM NaCl after 10 min incubation in 1 M NaCl. We found that a majority of the nucleosomes recover fully, as judged by FRET, after 10 min incubation 1 M NaCl, possibly because 1 mM MgCl₂ which we have in all our solutions increases the nucleosome stability.
