Recommendations for Improving Quality of Research Methodology on Bereavement Care in Primary Care

Knowledge Gap Research Recommendation
Limited generalizability of existing research
  • A variety of rigorously designed studies could be conducted to gather data on bereavement care in primary care in the present day, including representative national cross-sectional surveys and longitudinal surveys.

Lack of data on bereavement interventions in primary care
  • Multi-site randomized controlled trials (RCTs) could be conducted, perhaps with perhaps more intensive training than has been studied to date. RCTs could measure the results of physician training efforts on physician learning and behavior.

  • RCTs could also measure the impact of physician training on patient treatment engagement and symptom outcomes.
