Role of arginine/asymmetric dimethylarginine ratio. Asymmetric dimethylarginine accumulation blocks nitric oxide synthase (NOS) and induces consequent endothelial dysfunction in the vasculature. On the contrary, high arginine levels as substrate for NOS induces vasodilatation.
