Phonotactic effects during passive listening to sentences. A, A total of 118 electrodes showed significant (corrected p < 0.05) effects, mostly confined to STG. Most electrodes showed peak effects for Pfwd (blue dots) while also showing smaller Pbkw effects (red dots). Shapes represent the four different subjects. B, The time course of linear weights from the regression model shows a strong correspondence with the same analysis in the CVC task. Around the time of the phoneme transition (t = 0), there is a negative peak for Pfwd, followed by a positive peak for Pfwd. Pbkw effects were also present in continuous speech, although they were weaker and largely simultaneous with Pfwd effects.
