Methionine sulfoxide formation impairs GSTF9 and GSTT23 activities. Enzyme activity measurements in the CDNB assay show a significant (p ≤ 0.01; depicted as *) loss of enzymatic activity for both methionine-oxidized GSTs. Oxidized GSTF9 has a loss of up to ∼45% of the total enzyme activity, whereas the activity of oxidized GSTT23 drops by ∼38%. milli absorption units (mU), milliunits. The error bars represent standard deviation (S.D.).
