The changing language of cell biology. Key to the future of cell biology is understanding the role of the cell’s physical and chemical environment in addition to the more traditional molecular and genetic influences. The new interdisciplinary language that is emerging allows adoption of physical and chemical influences into the fundamental molecular and genetic script that determines much of cellular physiology, and provides a way to carry this forward to the whole organism.
