Failure to form a stratified epithelium 7 days after wounding in EXTΔ/ΔCEpi mice. Debridement wounds were performed on P55 EXTf/f and EXTΔ/ΔCEpi mice induced at P21 and analyzed after 7 days. EXTΔ/ΔCEpi mice presented compromised wound healing, persistent inflammation, and failure to form a stratified epithelium 7 days after wounding. Corneas were processed for paraffin sectioning and analyzed by hematoxylin and eosin staining.
