Nocturnal rapid eye movement (REM) sleep latency is strongly associated with the number of sleep onset rapid eye movement sleep periods (SOREMPs) on multiple sleep latency tests (MSLT). Polysomnography (PSG) REM sleep latencies are in the normal range in patients with only 0 or 1 MSLT SOREMPs, but over half of all patients with 4 or 5 SOREMPs have nSOREMPs, with REM sleep latencies ≤ 15 min. nSOREMPs predominantly occur in patients with N+C.
