More colour to the Journal: new style, new publisher, but still Cachexia, Sarcopenia and Muscle

The beginning of 2015 ushers a new era for the Journal of Cachexia, Sarcopenia and Muscle (JCSM). The Journal started with its first issue in September 2010, which was published by Springer, the publishing house based in Heidelberg, Germany, founded in 1842. In 2010, there were only 15 submissions to the editorial office, 13 of which were ultimately published online and in print. The number of submissions remained stable over the years 2011 to 2013 at around 43 per year (Figure1), but underwent a steep increase in 2014 when the journal's first Impact Factor was published by Thomson Scientific as 7.431. At the time of this writing, on February 25, 2015, the Journal has already received 34 submissions since the beginning of January. Even though we are more than delighted by the success of our “baby“ that has now started to walk independently, this fact has increased the editorial workload significantly. We therefore asked Corinna Denecke, who has been part of our clinical research team for several years, to join the editorial office and work together with Monika Diek in answering questions from our authors from all over the world and in handling submissions, an endeavour that embraces checking through the manuscripts with regards to our authors complying with author guidelines.

The beginning of 2015 also marks the start with a new Publishing House – Wiley, a US-based company with more than 1500 scientific journals. JCSM will now be published in full colour, both in print and online. The submission software will remain Editorial Manager as before. The Journal publication mode will change from free access to open access, which also means that we will introduce author publication charges to defray the cost of printing and distribution. The journal will continue its cooperation with the Society on Sarcopenia, Cachexia and Wasting Disorders (SCWD). The editorial team will strive to continue the work for top quality content in cooperation with authors and the new Publisher. Please continue to give us material to publish to make the world of cachexia and sarcopenia a better place for the good of our patients. We promise to continue to cradle and nourish our “baby“ and look forward to seeing it not only walking, but dancing its first waltz.
