Decreased density PGP9.5-IR nerve fibers (A) and average epidermal thickness (F) was demonstrated in the plantar skin of diabetic animals 4, 6, and 8 weeks after induction of diabetes (black bars) when compared to control (white bar). This is illustrated by histological sections of plantar skin in controls (B), and 4 (C), 6 (D), and 8 (E) weeks after induction of diabetes.
