The specific activities are the means of at least two independent measurements, and the standard deviation was always less than 10%. Extracts were prepared from cells grown in shake flasks with DMCG I and were induced for 6 h with 1 mM IPTG. The inducer was added when the culture reached an optical density at 600 nm of 0.3 to 0.4.
