Each panel shows the hierarchical cluster assignment (same as in Fig. 1) of vaginal microbiota samples from an individual girl (circles) and her mother (triangles), when applicable. The x axis indicates the clinical visit at which each sample was collected (visits occurred approximately every 3 months). Open circles signify premenarcheal status, and filled circles signify postmenarcheal status in girls. The menarcheal status was not recorded for subject 133 at visit 6, indicated by an open circle with a cross.
