Cellular currents were observed using whole-cell patch clamp electrophysiology in HEK293T cells expressing TRPV1–YFP after the application of an AzCA derivative (1 μM). Error bars were calculated as s.e.m. (a) The current magnitude could be controlled by adjusting the ON wavelength between λ=350 and 390 nm (AzCA3). (b) When current clamped, the membrane potential could be controlled by adjusting the ON wavelength between λ=350 and 400 nm (AzCA4). (c) The activation rate could be controlled by adjusting the ON wavelength between λ=350 and 390 nm (AzCA3, n=3).
