(a) 3D representation of an uncycled sulphur electrode on NWC. The carbon-binder domain (CBD) is only partially depicted (light grey) to emphasize the sulphur phase distribution. The representation contains ~900 aligned images such as the one shown in c. (b) X-ray tomogram showing absorption contrast (left side) and phase contrast (right). For segmentation, the information from each of these two types of images was combined. The resulting segmentation is shown in c. (c) Segmented image. Sulphur is depicted in white, the CBD in light grey and the fibres of the NWC in dark grey. The sulphur is almost fully coated by the CBD. For orientation we marked the same particle with an orange star in a, b and c.
