PhasiRNAs generated from introns in tomato. Examples of a PHAS locus (Sly015) that generates phasiRNAs from a bona fide intron (a) and a PHAS locus (Sly110) that generates phasiRNAs from an alternatively retained intron (b). RNA-seq and sRNA reads were derived from the same organ (fruit at the breaker stage or 42 days after pollination) and mapped to the tomato genome. For sRNA mapping, red depicts reads aligned in forward orientation and blue in reverse orientation. EST expressed sequence tag
