Effect of WalR and WalK on penicillin-induced bacterial autolysis. The Pspac-regulated walR mutant, RNPspac-WalR (A) and the Pspac-regulated walK mutant, RNPspac-WalK (B) were grown in TSB in the presence of different concentrations of IPTG (solid square:1 mM; open circle: 10 μM) at 37°C with shaking to reach the exponential phase (OD600 ~0.5). Penicillin (20 × MIC) was added to the exponential growth cultures at a final concentration of 8μg/ml. The bacterial cultures were continuously incubated, and the optical densities of the cultures were measured at OD600 every hour for 8 hours.
