(b) A representative actin filament (green dots) from an epidermal cell treated with 1 μM chitin for 5 min elongated rapidly and persists throughout the total elapsed time. Very few severing events occurred during the time course (red arrows). Filament–filament annealing (yellow arrowheads) was also prevalent, with two annealing events observed for this single filament.
