Vero cells were infected with wt or v41 strains at an MOI of 10 or mock-infected (m), and cultures were harvested at the times indicated (hours postinfection). Equivalent amounts of total cell lysates were separated by SDS-PAGE, transferred to nitrocellulose and probed with anti-VP16 (a) or anti-GFP (b) antibodies. Expression of native VP16 was absent and replaced with a VP16 fusion protein of approximately 95 kDa which was also detected with anti-GFP antibody. (c) Samples from the same time course were probed for expression of the immediate-early protein IE110k (ICP0), and the structural proteins VP22 and VP5. No significant differences in the abundance or kinetics of accumulation were observed between the wt of recombinant viruses.
