Effect of Vatica diospyroides type SS fruit on expression of the tumor suppressor protein p53 and downstream products affected by it, namely the proapoptotic protein Bax and the antiapoptotic protein p21. (a) MCF-7 cells were treated with the extract of fruit cotyledon, whereas (b) MDA-MB-231 cells were treated with the extract of fruit pericarp, both at concentration of half 50% growth inhibition concentrations. The cellular proteins were separated on SDS-polyacrylamide gels and subsequently transferred to membranes.
