Each voxel within the brain (red circles) is correlated with (grey lines) each a large-scale network (purple circles and associated spatial maps from Figure 1). Top: Voxels with strong connections to many higher-level networks can mediate information exchange between these networks. These voxels will have high BNC. Bottom: Voxels with a strong connection to a single larger network and weak connections to other networks will have a low BNC.
