High IGFBP expression is associated with poor prognosis in human breast cancer patients who also have high MMP9 expression. (A–C) The human breast cancer data set of expression profiles (GSE1456, n = 159) was analyzed for correlation of IGFBP-2, -3, and -4 expression and patient outcome. Longer overall survival was observed in cancer patients with high expression of these IGFBPs. (D–F) Breast cancer patients were divided into four groups with high and low IGFBP and MMP9 expression levels. High expression of IGFBPs and low expression of MMP9 were significantly associated with better overall survival compared to high expression of both IGFBPs and MMP9. Asterisks indicate statistical significance: *P < .05, **P < .01, or ***P < .001.
