Depth-resolved concentrations of Tenofovir in tissue. A standard-formulation gel loaded with 0% (control) or 1% Tenofovir was applied to the tissue surface in a Transwell assay and the concentration of the drug in the tissue was measured at 5, 60, or 120 minutes (min) post-application. Error bars and the limit of detection (LOD), both defined as the RMSECV calculated with homogenized tissue samples (Fig. 5), are also displayed. Co-localized OCT images were acquired and used to determine the average depth of the interface between the epithelium and stroma.
