Lung histological changes in cotton rats infected by rhMPVs. The right lung from each cotton rat was preserved in 4% (vol/vol) phosphate-buffered paraformaldehyde. Fixed tissues were embedded in paraffin, sectioned at 5 μm, and stained with hematoxylin-eosin (HE) for the examination of histological changes by light microscopy. Lungs from rhMPV and rhMPV-C7S had moderate to severe lymphocyte infiltrates, whereas lungs from rhMPV-C21S had no to mild lymphocyte infiltrates.
