Figure 3. — Effects of ablating MnPO/septal NK₃R neurons on serum LH (A) and body weight (B). Rats were OVX and injected with blank-SAP (control) or NK₃-SAP in the arcuate nucleus on day 0, implanted with subcutaneous E₂ capsules on day 22, and killed 11 days later. Serum LH and body weight were markedly increased after 22 days of ovariectomy and reduced by E₂ treatment in control rats. Similar changes were seen in NK₃-SAP rats; however, the peak levels of serum LH after OVX were slightly reduced compared with those of controls. Body weights were similar between control and NK₃-SAP rats. #, P ≤ .05, significantly different, NK₃-SAP vs blank-SAP; +, P ≤ .01, significantly different from intact values on day 0; *, P ≤ .01, significantly different after E₂ (vs OVX).
