Supplemental Figure S3

Postnatal Col5a2+/− heterozygotes have abnormalities in collagen fibril morphology. Electron micrographs of collagen fibrils in cross section (A and D) and longitudinal section (B and E) in the skin of 15-week-old Col5a2+/+ (A and B) and Col5a2+/− (D and E) mice. A thicker fibril with irregular contours is marked by an asterisk. Fibril diameter distributions were a mean of 96.4 nm, a median of 92.7, and an SD of 6.9 nm for 15-week-old Col5a2+/+ mice (C) and a mean of 100.8 nm, a median of 95.5 nm, and an SD of 8.0 nm for Col5a2+/− (F) mice. n = 32 (C); n = 36 (F).
