Increased MACC1 expression in gastric cancer (GC) activates the HGF-c-Met axis, which promotes nuclear translocation of MACC1. This leads to nuclear expression upregulation of TWIST1/2, which facilitates VM by increasing the expression of VEGFR2 and VE-cadherin, decreasing the expression of E-cadherin. Then VM promotes GC cell growth and metastasis. ↑: activation, ┴: inhibition.
